If there is one thing that can shorten the life of your sail, it’s a lack of maintenance. Routine repair and maintenance can increase longevity and improve performance. At Doyle Chesapeake, we’ve developed a 10-Point Check-up specifically designed to evaluate your sail’s condition, so we can make necessary repairs and extend your sail’s life. In addition, we clean and service your sails over the winter so they are in good condition for spring.
The Doyle Service Team. Doing what it does best.
Our service team is recognized as the best in the business. It is led by experts with over 30 years of sailmaking experience. In addition to providing the best care for your sails, our team will help you plan your inventory and help you set up sail handling equipment to make sailing safe and enjoyable for you and your crew.
The Doyle process.
When you bring your sails in, we assign a permanent tag and log it into our system to create a permanent record for each sail. Once we give your sails our 10-point check-up we’ll provide you with an estimate before any work begins.
UV exposure, UV covers, and recuts.
Our staff has years of experience dealing with the impact of UV exposure on sails. We’ll check the stitching to make sure that it is free of UV damage and re-stitch the cover to make sure that your sail is being protected from damaging UV rays. We can also make recommendations to extend the life of your sails with recuts and shaping.
The Doyle sail wash.
In sail washing, the most important factor is maintaining the cloth’s original structural integrity. At Doyle, sails are soaked in appropriate cleaning agents for twenty-four hours before they are gone over by hand. All sails are hung to dry in a climate-controlled environment. Final inspection takes place before flaking and storing the sails for pickup or delivery to ensure that you will be happy with the final result.
